5 Simple Exercises for Sciatica Pain

Sciatica is a condition that causes a variety of symptoms, most notable of which is pain radiating from the lower back or buttocks, down to the leg, and the foot. When left untreated, it can lead to permanent nerve damage, loss of feeling, and even loss of bladder control.

Luckily, you can treat it with exercise. Performing several Pilates exercises have been proven to help relieve the pain caused by sciatica. While there are several exercises that you should definitely avoid while affected by sciatica, these five Pilates exercises have been proven to aid sciatic pain.

1. Bridge - Lie on the floor, raise your knees up but keep your feet grounded. While keeping your back as flat on the ground as possible, raise your hips as high as you can, hold it for a few seconds, and then slowly bring them down.

2. Abdominal Curl - Lay flat on your back with your knees up, and bend your upper body upwards while keeping your lower back on the floor. Hold this for a few seconds before slowly releasing and moving back down.

3. Leg Circles - Lie on your back, raise one leg, point your foot and, while trying to keep your body as flat as possible, draw circles in the air. Repeat this with your other leg.
